airport to the post-operative evaluation. The hotel was very comfortable and met my expectations. The scheduled pick-up times at the hotel were met. The hospital facilities were also satisfactory. Avoid alcohol for at least 5 days after your procedure. Alcohol thins the blood, can increase post-operative bleeding and interferes with the antibiotics and painkillers prescribed after surgery — all of which can slow the healing of the newly implanted grafts.

Most patients return to a desk job after about 5 days. If your work is physically demanding, dusty or dirty, wait 7–14 days so you avoid sweating, knocks and any contamination of the healing grafts.

Avoid intense exercise such as running, weightlifting, football and contact sports for about 1 month, because heavy sweating and impacts can dislodge grafts. Gentle walking is usually fine from around day 4.

Try to avoid smoking for at least 1 week, and ideally longer. Nicotine narrows the blood vessels and reduces the oxygen supply to the newly implanted follicles, which delays recovery and can weaken new hair growth.

Protect your scalp from direct sunlight for about 2 months. Strong sun can burn the healing skin, damage deeper tissue and cause pigmentation spots. Once your surgeon allows it, wear a loose hat outdoors.

You can wear a loose baseball cap from about day 10, once the grafts are more secure. Avoid tight hats and helmets for the first month, as pressure and rubbing can damage or displace the new grafts.

Wait about 1 month before swimming. This gives the recipient and donor areas time to heal fully, so there is no risk of infection from pool chemicals, sea water or bacteria.

Avoid sexual activity for about 5–7 days. The main concern is heavy sweating and accidental knocks to the head that could disturb the grafts during the most delicate phase of healing.

Sleep on your back with your head elevated at least 45 degrees for the first 7–10 days, ideally using a neck (travel) pillow. This reduces swelling and stops you from rubbing the grafts against the pillow.

Yes — use a clean pillowcase every day for about 10 days and choose a fragrance-free, allergen-free detergent. This keeps the healing scalp clean and lowers the risk of infection.

Your first wash is usually performed the day after surgery, using a gentle technique your clinic will demonstrate. For the first two weeks, wash softly by hand with the special shampoo and lotion provided — never rub or use strong water pressure on the grafts.

Wait at least 4–6 months, or until the scalp has fully healed. The chemicals in hair dye are harsh and can irritate sensitive new follicles and interfere with growth during recovery.

You can have a light trim with scissors after about 1 month. Avoid electric razors on the transplanted area for around 4 months, and always ask your barber to work gently around the recipient zone.

Yes. Mild swelling of the forehead or around the eyes is common between days 2 and 7. You can reduce it by applying an ice pack over the eyebrows — never directly on the grafts — for short periods.

Yes — mild itching and redness are signs of healing and can last up to about 2 weeks. Do not scratch or pick at the area, as this can remove grafts and scabs and delay the healing process.

Most patients can begin Minoxidil after about 3 weeks, once the scalp has settled, and only if your surgeon recommends it. It supports the hair-growth cycle and can help slow the loss of your existing native hair.

A temporary loss of sensation is normal and usually resolves within 3–6 weeks as the sensory nerves regenerate. It fades gradually on its own and needs no special treatment.

Shedding of the transplanted hairs — known as shock loss — usually happens 1–2 months after surgery and is completely normal. The follicles stay healthy in the scalp and begin producing new hair a few months later.

New growth typically starts around months 2–3, a noticeable difference appears by month 6, and density keeps improving through months 8–9. The final result is usually visible between 12 and 18 months.
