Hair Transplant Procedures

Every hair transplant follows the same underlying sequence, whichever technique is used. Follicles are taken from a donor area — usually the back and sides of the scalp, where hair is typically less affected by pattern hair loss — and moved into the thinning or bald area. What changes between techniques is how those follicles are removed and how they are put back.

1. Assessment and planning. Donor density and the pattern of loss are examined, and the hairline is drawn and agreed before anything else happens.
2. Preparation. The donor area is trimmed — some approaches leave the recipient area unshaven — and local anaesthesia is applied.
3. Extraction. Follicular units are removed one at a time with a micro-punch, leaving small dot-shaped openings rather than a linear scar.
4. Sorting. Grafts are held in a preservation solution and grouped by how many hairs each one carries, so single-hair grafts can be reserved for the hairline.
5. Placement. Recipient sites are either opened first and then filled (FUE, Sapphire FUE) or opened and filled in one movement with an implanter pen (DHI). The angle, direction and depth chosen at this stage are what decide whether the result reads as natural.
6. Healing and regrowth. Crusts form and clear, the transplanted hairs shed — this is expected, not a failure — and new growth comes from the same follicles over the months that follow.
