Exosome Hair Treatment

Exosomes are extracellular vesicles — very small packages that cells release to carry signalling material to other cells. In hair treatment they are introduced into the scalp with the aim of supporting the signalling environment around follicles that are still present but weakening.

The distinction that matters clinically: exosome therapy is a support treatment for follicles that still exist. It does not create follicles where they are gone. That is what separates it from surgery, and it is why candidate assessment decides whether the treatment is worth doing at all.

This is an area where the evidence base is still developing. A clinic that presents exosome therapy as settled science, or promises a specific outcome from it, is overstating what is currently known.

Exosome therapy is delivered as an outpatient appointment and does not require general anaesthesia.

1. Assessment. The scalp is examined to establish whether miniaturising follicles are present in the target area.
2. Preparation. The exosome preparation is made ready according to the product being used.
3. Scalp anaesthesia. A topical anaesthetic is applied to the treatment area.
4. Application. The preparation is delivered into the scalp across the thinning zone.
5. Aftercare. Normal activity usually resumes the same day; washing and strenuous exercise are typically deferred briefly.

Ask which product is being used and what it contains. That question is reasonable, and a clinic should be able to answer it directly.

The treatment is aimed at scalps where follicles are thinning rather than absent: early to moderate pattern loss, diffuse thinning, and support around a transplanted area.

It is not an alternative to surgery on a fully bald zone. It is also not the right first step where the hair loss has another driver — thyroid disease, iron deficiency, a scalp condition or a medication. Those are investigated first, because addressing them changes what the scalp actually needs.

An assessment in person or by video establishes which situation applies. A plan quoted before anyone has looked at your scalp is a package, not an assessment.

Exosome therapy is delivered as a course rather than a single appointment, with the number of sessions set at assessment based on the pattern and how the scalp responds.

Any change is gradual and shows first in the condition of existing hair rather than in new coverage. Fixed-interval photographs under consistent lighting are the only reliable way to judge it — week-to-week impressions in the mirror are not.

Because the evidence base is still forming, it is reasonable to ask a clinic what outcome it expects in your specific case and on what basis. An answer built around your assessment is more useful than one built around the treatment in general.

These address different problems. A transplant relocates follicles into an area that has none. Exosome therapy is directed at follicles that are still present, including the native hair surrounding a transplanted zone.

Used together, the intent is to support existing hair while the transplanted follicles establish. Used alone, it is a maintenance approach for a scalp that is thinning but not yet bald. Which applies to you depends on donor supply, the stage of loss, and what you want the result to be in ten years rather than only now.
